“Glamping, also known as luxury camping or glamorous camping, is that escape you’ve been meaning to take. It’s that little break from the hustle and bustle. It’s a moment by yourself in a secluded tree house.”
The foodies and the fashionistas do it every year: gather at what’s perhaps the biggest event on The Bahamas’ social calendar.
And partying in paradise has never been this cool; that is, until Hands for Hunger said it was. Their Paradise Plates charity event is the perfect excuse to dine, dance and donate to a worthy cause.
At Cacique, we pride ourselves on being trendsetters, so we decided to stray from the well-beaten track of designing an extravagant ballroom-style event. This year we wanted to reimagine Paradise Plates as something quite different. As all of us who live in Nassau know, one man’s paradise is another man’s commute, so we set out to give our partygoers a break from the hustle and bustle of the island capital...
Welcome to “Glamping in Paradise.”
THE WHAT
Transforming spaces calls for a healthy mix of creativity and vision. Large canvases like the Imperial Ballroom at the Atlantis Resort have been dressed and undressed thousands of times, so designing a look for a space that’s seen so many faces required that unmatched Cacique touch. For an event known to inspire attendees to dress to impress, we knew we had to do the same. Weaving a mix of boho chic and the outdoorsy idea of glamping, we set out to make magic.
“We wanted to do something they hadn’t done before at Paradise Plates and make sure the layout of the room was vey cohesive. So simple touches like having the DJ under the teepee was a cool add-on to really bring the Boho Glamping theme to life.
The winding tables were a great touch too! Our creative brain thought about when you’e out glamping and you see these oceans and rivers and they curve and bend and wind for miles; so the idea was to use the tables to bring that to life, and we heard it was well received. The whole idea was for everything to just flow. We wanted guests to feel like no matter where they were in the room, they got an equal feel of that sense of place. ”
THE HOW
Boho chic vibes complemented the glamour of camping that night. Lanterns and candles adorned the tabletops and floor, adding a midnight campfire feel to the lounge and seating areas. The jury is still out on if time machines actually exist, but with groovy-themed table cloths, colorful daisies and throw pillows with hints of Bohemian vibes, guests were warped to a time where bell bottom pants and tie dye shirts made for the perfect outfit.
THE WOW
“Having to postpone Paradise Plates after Hurricane Dorian, when our team turned to Cacique to help us bring our vision to life, we were greeted with an abundance of passion and support for our organization. Cacique’s management and staff worked around the clock to ensure every detail conveyed an experience unique to Paradise Plates.
My favorite was the curved tables, it provided a communal space for guests to engage, but it reminded me of the importance of building community throughout life’s journey. Paying attention to the small details mattered, and we cannot thank Cacique enough for their support of Paradise Plates 2019.”
Just imagine isn’t just a tagline to us; it’s our mantra. That’s why we set out to create experiences that people dream about. We created a 360-degree dance floor giving partygoers full use of the space and making the DJ the highlight of the space. Brought to life by string lights, a custom-built naked teepee was his house for the night. Elongated, silk covered, winding tablescapes adorned with flowers housed in glass bottles also added a wow factor. And, of course, the glamping theme wouldn’t be complete without designing the most beautiful tent to top it all off.
We had an amazing time designing the space for Hands for Hunger’s Paradise Plates and enjoyed every bit of the magical experience. So, who’s ready to go glamping?
